Empowering Farmers: Gomba DLG Strengthens Farmer Group Profiling and Institutional Development

Empowering Farmers: Gomba DLG Strengthens Farmer Group Profiling and Institutional Development under the Uganda Climate Smart Agriculture Transformation Project (UCSATP)

Gomba District Local Government, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF), has successfully conducted a training on farmer group profiling. This effort is part of the broader Climate Smart Agriculture Project aimed at enhancing productivity and resilience among smallholder farmers.

According to Sharon F., one of the key facilitators, the training was smoothly executed with full participation from extension workers. The trained extension teams are now equipped with the necessary skills to comprehensively profile farmer groups across the district. This profiling process is essential for identifying eligible farmer groups who have fulfilled the requirement of contributing 20% towards the matching grant, positioning them to receive inputs under the project.

A notable milestone has been the Farmer Institutional Development and production planning exercise carried out for Kisoga-Nsambwe Coffee Farmers Group. The group has already mobilized and deposited their co-funding contribution and now eagerly awaits the delivery of agricultural inputs through the MAAIF E-Voucher System. This marks a significant step forward in ensuring timely support for farmers ready to transform their livelihoods.

Additionally, the UCSATP Farmer Institutional Development (FID) training was conducted for members of Balikyewunya Kalimumwa-Kyanika Coffee Farmers Group in Bbinzi-Ttaba Parish. The group is comprised of 29 committed members who have demonstrated readiness by depositing their 20% co-fund into the Finance Trust Bank Gomba account.

These activities reflect Gomba District’s dedication to strengthening farmer institutions, building capacity, and enhancing access to government agricultural support systems. As more farmer groups are profiled and trained, the district anticipates increased productivity, better resource utilization, and sustainable development across the agriculture sector.
